Live from the Philippines, our project manager Anthony Agones was present at this year’s virtual general meeting. Anthony offered the enthusiastic audience exciting insights into his work and personal experiences on site. While our CEO acted as translator, Anthony reported on the challenges he and his team had to face in the past year. In doing so, he highlighted how working with GMI has enabled them to reach even more people with digital offerings and support them on their journey out of poverty. Anthony was particularly inspiring with the example of Regina, a microcredit recipient who, despite several setbacks, did not give up and was able to double her daily income by trading baked goods online, despite the pandemic that was still raging.
After the annual review and financial report, the general meeting discharged the board before confirming the individual board members in office for another two years.
Subsequently, Michael Jost was also confirmed in office as cash auditor and Marco Maidhof was unanimously elected as a further cash auditor. Eva Thiem, our previous second cash auditor, was no longer available for the office due to relocation.
In another important item on the agenda, the general meeting passed an amendment to the articles of association that will allow us to work with experts in the field in the future without them having to be directly employed by a non-profit organization.
The afternoon ended with an outlook on the year ahead. Tobias described to the participants the goals we would like to achieve in 2021: To reach even more people with the help of our new partner on Bali, bprSIWI, to network especially the Indonesian partner organizations on Lombok and Bali, to accompany them in the exchange of experiences among each other and thus to intensify their cooperation.
