Four Years Later

During his stay in the Philippines, Director Tobias Schüßler was able to visit Catherine as well.

„In 2014, she was the first to receive a GMI micro loan,“ he explains. „Over the years, she improved her skills a lot. Today she is really confident and without outside help, finds new ways to sell her products.“

When Catherine realized that her Hello Kitty bags had the potential to become a best-seller, she advertised them on Facebook and two retail shops. „My customers order mostly via facebook or buy directly from one of the stores. This way, I have a lot of work to do and because most items are sold immediately, I dont have to store them in my home.“

Her dream of 2014 became true.

2014 and today

Back then, she dreamed of moving away from the shack on the beach that flooded every year and didn‘t even have running water or a floor. Now she lives in a safer, flood free area. „My business is such a huge support, without it I could never ever have afforded this apartment.“ The 70€ monthly rent are fully funded by the profits of her business, which average around 100 € per month.

We are really happy that Catherine was able to fulfil her dream all by herself – thanks to one of our micro loans!
